This book was written with the aim to guide, inspire and help primary school teachers, early years educators and families to connect with the outdoors and nature in Autumn.

Thrive Autumn Outdoor Nature Activities Book Contents

Thrive Autumn has over 60 pages of activity ideas covering well being, emotional, math, developing language, creative and even some Halloween fun! The book includes pictures as a visual to many of the activities and is aimed at children between 2 and 8 years old.

From the book:

Play is the most important thing in any child’s life, so free play is vital in any outdoor adventure, but this series of books is about turning play opportunities into opportunities to learn. This is best done gently and encouragingly. Thrive activities will help you and yours to a sense of emotional, mental and physical health and well-being in the modern world.

Research in “Science Advance”, where researchers built a forest floor daycare, shows that play outside amongst the bio-diverse microbes, after just one month, changed the children’s immune system. Thrive activities will also provide wonderful opportunities for cognitive development. Pull on the boots, wrap up and let’s explore outside in Autumn.’

Thrive seeks to help parents and early years educators enjoy time outdoors, in all weathers, in the garden, in a field, in a forest or at the ocean! The book includes a small list of items that you will need for the children in order to get outside in the Autumn. These include items such as certain clothes, wellies, snacks and little treasure bags!

The book encourages the use of many natural items such as leaves, stones, seeds and nuts as part of the outdoor learning. This book would be a great addition to any Primary School to have on hand for staff members who might need some inspiration or guidance when connecting with the outdoors and nature in Autumn. See below video for a brief introduction to the book!
