Dew Products – Helping to minimise the spread of the Cold and Flu Virus this Winter!

As you know, good health and hygiene in your school is not just about COVID-19. We are currently heading into the Winter season where we will now have to encounter the circulation of cold and flu viruses as well as continue the fight against the COVID-19 virus. As with COVID-19 we need to ensure that we clean and disinfect high touch surfaces and practice good hand hygiene to minimise the spread of these viruses. The Dew product range available on The Primary School Shop can be used effectively against Colds and Flu viruses as well as COVID-19. There are a range of different sanitising and disinfectant products available from Dew that are all non-alcohol based, meaning they are safe for us and the environment and non-damaging to surfaces and objects.

DEW sanister products carry no fire risk and are not harmful to your skin or lungs (if inhaled). This means that the product can also be ‘fogged’ to quickly decontaminate an enclosed space. This can be done by using the Room Sanitiser or, for smaller areas or vehicles, the Personal  / Car Dry Mister. Either unit is simply filled with the Dew Disinfect Refill (available in both 5 litre and 2.5 litre cans) which disperses a harmless dry mist that will sanitise the air in the area of the room or space that you place the unit, killing 99.995% germs and viruses including Cold and Flu viruses. One Room Sanitiser can sanitise the air in a room of 50 square meters in less than 30 minutes. Our star Dew product is the Air Spray Atomiser  which can be used in all areas, including close to food.

    How do Dew Products work?

Dew products are made up of 99.84% water, salt (Sodium Chloride) 0.134% and FAC of 0.026%. FAC stands for ‘Free Available Chlorine’ and in Dew’s case FAC is comprised of two components, Hypochlorous Acid and Sodium Hypochlorite. Hypochlorous acid is a substance that the human body itself naturally produces in order to fight infections. The Dew cleansers and disinfectants are made by passing electrical currents through a solution of de-ionised water and high purity salt (Sodium Chloride) in a chamber fitted with a specially designed membrane. This process is known as electrolysis. When Dew (electrolysed water) comes into contact with bacteria the Dew molecules cause an imbalance on the bacteria cell surface, breaking down its defences allowing the Hypochlorous Acid to render it harmless.

    Dew Products October Special Offers!

Our special October offers can save you €25.00 on the Dew Room Sanitiser including 2 x 5L Disinfect Refills! NEW! Alcohol-Free Disinfecting Wipes on the Primary School Shop

Promoting good hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfecting are all very important actions that everyone must take in order to slow down the spread of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. Practising good hand hygiene is one of the best ways to protect yourself and others from being sick. When the virus that causes COVID-19 is on hands and not washed off it can be passed from person to person. Therefore regular handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or hand rubbing with hand sanitising gel (where access to a sink is not available) is one of the best ways to slow the spread of the virus.

Sars-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes COVID-19, is thought to be spread from person to person, but it may also spread by touching a surface that the virus is on and then touching your own mouth, nose or your eyes. It is therefore very important to ensure that high touch items and surfaces are cleaned and disinfected on a regular basis. Cleaning and disinfecting can help to reduce the risk of the spread by reducing and killing any germs on surfaces and items that people touch frequently. In a school environment this can include door handles, handrails, chairs and arm rests, desks, sinks and toys. What is the difference between cleaning and disinfecting? Cleaning physically removes any dirt, grime and impurities on surfaces and items using a soap (detergent) and water. To disinfect, antiviral products such as ready-to-use sprays, wipes or diluted concentrates must be used to kill microorganisms, bacteria and viruses. Therefore it is advised that you clean first and then disinfect all surfaces and high-touch items.

We are delighted to announce two brand new disinfecting products that are now live on The Primary School Shop. The first product is our Alcohol Free Antiviral Surface Wipes (200 Pack). These wipes are antiviral and antibacterial and are used widely across many health services. They are alcohol-free and can kill coronavirus within 30 seconds of contact. The wipes are pre-moistened and therefore ready to use immediately. They are a multipurpose disinfectant and cleaner and are handy to have in the classroom as a quick and easy way to wipe down high-touch surfaces such as taps, door handles and table surfaces, as well as toys, screens, wipeable posters and book covers.

The second new product now live on the shop is the Sanisafe Alcohol Free Antibacterial Surface Wipes (1500 Pack). This product is ideal for the disinfection of medium food preparation and work surfaces. The product is quat and biguanide free and proven to eliminate cross-contamination with a single wipe. Sanisafe wipes have been shown to be effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Both of these products are alcohol free and therefore less damaging to surfaces used and safe to use around young children and those with respiratory sensitivities.

Dew Product Range Now Available on The Primary School Shop

Did you know that the Primary School Shop has a new range of alcohol free sanitising, disinfecting and cleaning products available? Dew Products are a powerful green disinfectant and cleaning technology that uses electrolysed water. The products are manufactured from deionised water, high purity salt and a little electricity. The disinfection products offer the highest grade in multi-spectrum disinfection for surfaces, air and water, without promoting resistance in bacteria or viruses. The products deodorise and suppress dusts and many other allergens. As Dew products are PH neutral and free from harsh or toxic chemicals they are easier on skin and surfaces than bleach based disinfectants. They have shown 99.995% effectiveness at killing bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores.

We have a range of Dew products on the Primary School Shop including Dew Disinfect, Dew Sanitiser, Dew Air Spray, Dew Hand & Body Foam as well as our latest Dew Superclean products in both spray and concentrate. The Dew Disinfect product can be used on worktops, sinks, drains, toilets and is so gentle that it can also be used as an antiseptic for antibacterial skin cleansing. The Dew Sanitiser product can be used on your hands by spraying onto one or both hands and rubbing your hands together for one minute as though washing your hands. Both products come in 500ml containers but can also be purchased in 2.5 and 5 litre refill containers so that you can refill rather than re-purchasing each time. This is a great way to help the environment by using less plastic. We also have a mini-sanitiser, 65ml, to carry with you in your bag or pocket and it is refillable from our 2.5 or 5 litre cans.

The Dew Air Spray product disinfects and deodorises the air and can also freshen clothes, soft furnishings and carpets. The Dew Hand & Body Foam is kind on the skin and makes an excellent replacement to soap providing a gentle but effective cleanse. The latest in the range of Dew Products is Dew Superclean. This is a multi-surface, low-streak cleaner and degreaser that provides excellent results. It is available in both a 500ml spray bottle and a concentrate. Superclean Concentrate is a great way to be ready to refill without storing large bottles – just add tap water to 2 capfuls to refill a 500ml container. Another product that encourages less plastic use by refilling!

The Critical Importance of a Cleaning Regime in the fight against COVID-19

Many schools will be re-opening at the end of August. All schools are now tasked with minimising the spread of infection for staff and children through the implementation of tight controls that reduce the transmission and spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. One of the ways that schools can greatly help to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus is to ensure that cleaning regimes are 100% in order so as to protect staff, children and visitors. Thorough cleaning followed by drying will remove large numbers of  various germs, spores, bacteria and fungi but may not necessarily destroy the germs completely. Germs are spread through hands, breathing, sneezing, clothes, skin scales, food and kitchen areas, high risk areas such as bathrooms and high touch areas such as computers and phones. Therefore, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces more often – particularly high touch areas such as door handles, classroom materials, desks, shared computers, phones etc. is most critical.

    A ‘Clean as you Go’ policy should be in place for all schools to ensure that the number of germs and viruses such as the COVID-19 Coronavirus in the environment is reduced to a safe level. This can be done by ensuring;

    • Surfaces are cleaned, rinsed and dried before use or when visibly soiled.
    • Routine cleaning is accomplished using warm water and a general-purpose neutral pH detergent.
    • Manufacturer’s instructions are always followed when using detergents and disinfectants with regard to the use of personal protective clothing and dilution recommendations.
    • Do not guess measurements and always use a measure.
    • Extra measures will not kill more bacteria or clean better – it will damage work surfaces, make floors slippery and give off unpleasant odours.
    • Water is changed frequently as dirty water is ineffective for cleaning.
    • Disinfecting surfaces are then rinsed.
    • Toilets, sinks, wash hand basins and surrounding areas are cleaned when required at least twice daily.

At the Primary School Shop we now have two great new cleaning products available that are ideal for cleaning, sanitising and disinfecting all areas within your service. Klorkleen and Klorsept are very powerful, safe and come in tablet form, which makes it easy to use and store. Just drop a tablet into the correct volume of water, no mixing required. Both products are EPA and FDA registered and are considered safer and highly effective as a bleach replacement using 70% less chemicals. The active ingredient in both products is sodium troclosene (NADCC). While it does provide chlorine in the form of hypochlorous acid (HOCL) for sanitising and disinfection purposes, it is not a hypochlorite like chlorine bleach. The chemistry and mode of action of NaDCC is significantly different, producing a solution that is stable once diluted, particularly in the presence of organic contaminants. Studies have shown that HOCL has four times the anti-microbial killing power of hypochlorites (-OCL).

The recommendation would be to use Klorkleen daily for the first and last cleaning and Klorsept to be used in intermediary cleaning during each day. They are cost effective and have a long shelf life. There is no risk of spillage or leaks and there is no major corrosive effect with the majority of materials. Klorsept is provided in a tub of 200 soluble tablets and Klorkeen in a tub of 150 soluble tablets. Stored correctly they both have a shelf-life of up to 3 Years.

NEW – Portable COVID-19 Sanitising Products for use on-the-go!

We all know by now the importance of hand hygiene in the fight against the COVID-19 coronavirus. Both the HSE and WHO have advised that frequent handwashing with warm water and soap is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of the virus. Just like a cold, coronaviruses are spread through droplets from a person sneezing or coughing and potentially, from a contaminated surface. As public health restrictions are lifted, social distancing, proper hand washing and respiratory hygiene is now more important than ever. We are now moving around a lot more which means being in contact with more people and we are touching many more different surfaces on a regular basis. As we move about it is not always convenient for us to wash our hands at a sink with warm water and soap. Hand hygiene gels and wipes are a proven alternative to hand washing with water.

The Primary School Shop has just launched three great new portable hand hygiene products that can be used in situations where you are out and about and don’t have access to a place to wash your hands. The Hand Sanitiser Gel Sachets (Hand Sanitiser Gel Sachets) and the Alcohol Sanitising Wipes (Alcohol Sanitising Wipes) both come in individual single use sachets and are perfect to fit in any sized bag. These are ideal for providing a quick and easy solution to sanitise hands without water, which makes them ideal to use in any location and on any form of transportation. The wipes can also be used to sanitise small surfaces, toys, shopping trolleys etc.
The Portable Hand Sanitiser (Portable 100ml Hand Sanitiser) is a gel with 75% alcohol and comes in a 100ml handy sized bottle (12cm / 4.5in). All three products are ideal for people to have with them outside to ensure they can always keep their hands clean at all times. As they are all small and neat products they are easy to carry in a small bag or, with the sachets – even in your pocket!
